3 Questions Every Person Should Ask When Looking For An Instructor.
1. What Is The Instructor's Training?
-Is the instructor a professional performer him or her self?
-Does the instructor have hands on practical experience?
-What kind of formal education does the instructor have?
-Is the instructor an experienced teacher?
Hi, my name is Kim Eirhart and I have been teaching instrumental and vocal music at Samuel Music Company and now here at my home since 1987. I have an Associate of Arts(Music) Degree from Lakeland College in Mattoon, IL, and finished my formal education at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL.
I started singing in the church choir when I was six years old, and have been associated with local and regional bands since I was fourteen. With experience in Rock, Pop, Jazz, Swing, and Country styles.
2. What Is the School's Environment Like?
-Is it too serious and strict or too unstructured and not disciplined enough?
At my studio I believe that a student can receive stellar training and still have fun. The key word here is BALANCE!
Since the student is constantly being challenged, confidence is enhanced and is carried over to other areas of his or her life.
3. What Are The Physical Facilities Like?
All instruction at my studio is one on one (no group lessons) in a large quiet room with a real Yamaha piano (not a clavinova), state of the art Roland and Alesis electronic keyboards, and access to professional grade electric and acoustic guitars and basses.
All lessons at my studio are geared toward the student's (or their parent's) personal goals. Whatever the student's specific goal is, be it a desire to play in the school band, their church's ensemble, a garage band with their friends, or college prep, they will be having fun while working toward that goal, and learning all the skills of their chosen instrument so they can enjoy a lifetime of music of any type.
I meet the student at whatever playing level (beginner on up) they're at, and take them as far as they want to go.
Technique (the physical skills), Theory (the mental skills), and Repertoire (songs) are all given the proper balance to produce a well rounded player.
